Doll unboxing and review: Kiyomi Haunterly

Hi ghouls and mansters! What have you been up to this week?

As I told you on one of my latest post, I'd like to introduce some new content to the blog, such as shop reviews (like the one I did of The Daughter Who Sews) instead of all being crafts I do, because, let's be sincere, I don't have the time for crafting right now.

One of the things I wanted to add to the blog was some dolls and doll lines reviews, in which I could express my personal opinion about this toy line in particular. I got this idea pretty much inspired by The Toy Box Philosopher, who makes great and very complete doll reviews. Probably my review is not as complete or detailed as hers, but I really want to give it a try.

For my first review I've chosen Kiyomi Haunterly, from Monster High's Haunted movie and doll line. Kiyomi is the daughter of the Noppera Bo, a faceless ghost from the japanese culture. She's a student at Haunted High, a high school for ghost that's located on the ghost world.

First, let's start with the box. The Haunted dolls come with this new box desing that's almost completely clear, so you can see all the content inside the box. Also, is quite easy to open without breaking it, so I guess it's easier to open for younger kids.

One of the things I like the most of this boxes is the chain detail at the front of the box.

At the back of the box you can read Kiyomi's profile and a little bit of the plot of the Haunted movie:

With the front plastic removed, you can take a closer look to Kiyomi:

It took me a few minutes to unattach her from the box, as she had some tiny plastics attaching her dress to the box. One of the things I don't like about the Monster High dolls is those plastics that they have attaching their heads to the box because then you have to cut it very close to the doll's scalp trying not to cut her hair.

So, here's finally Kiyomi:

Because of her blue tones and pale skin, she doesn't look good against my baby blue background, so I decided to use a darker one. So here it is:

Much better

Kiyomi is a gorgeous doll, she's got pale blue skin and her hair has a wonderful combination of purple and burgundy colours with pale pink bangs. Her face is not painted the same way as other Monster High dolls, as her facial features are outlined in white and her lips are painted in a very subtle shade of blue.

I also love her outfit. She's wearing a plaid dress with tulle sleeves and details on top of her skirts. The tulle fabric has a wonderful pink cherry blossom pattern on it. I also like the chain detail belt, because gives the impresion that the doll is floating.

Her shoes are pretty interesting too, as on the back they've got this face detail, one happy and one sad. I also find the little socks very cute.

Kiyomi also brings a handbag with her and, like her shoes, has a face detail on it: sad on one side and happy on the other.

One of the things that I like the most about the Haunted dolls is that they come with this super cool new stand design. It's made of clear blue plastic and it looks like a chain.

I also like it because it holds the doll just below her armpit instead of holding her waist tight and pinching her clothes. Also, it makes the doll look like she's floating and is much more discrete than the black stands.

In the Haunted movie, Kiyomi changes her colour in order to show her emotions. The actual doll doesn't do that, but if she did, that will put this doll over the top. But anyway, I'm really happy with this doll.

I think that, overall, Kiyomi is an interesting doll. I specially like her facial features and the colour palette used for her. I'm very happy that she doesn't have a  messy or greasy hair and all her points of articulation seem to be in order, because lately my dolls seem to have issues like loose knees or greasy hair, but that's a topic for another blog post.

What do you guys think of Kiyomi? Who's your favourite Haunted character? Tell me what you think so far.

  1. Actuallt, Kiyomi is the only new ghosts dolls I don't own. I've seen her for 10€ and never picked her. Why? I...am not really attracted to her. While I was crazy to get Porter and River, and I like Vandala enough to have her, Kiyome...I think is the one with less special things of the four of them.
If she came with no face at all, like her father, then I would probably picked her, because that's new. But the way the designers made her face...don't call my attention. Maybe I'll get her one day, to complete the collection, but for now she's a no-no for me.

    1. Hi Zilkenian! Both Kiyomi and Vandala are my two favourites, and I love her face! River was my least favourite of the ghosts, and I got her to complete collection. Iliked Porter, but I was a little bit dissapointed when I got him.
      Thanks for stopping by!
