Tagged: Liebster Award

Hello everyone!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I've started University again and I just don't have the time to post. I wanted to do a doll review before I started classes, but thanks to the wonderful postal service of Spain I haven't been able to do so. However, I took some free time to write this blog post.

I've been tagged for the Liebster Award by Black Kitty from The Multicrafteral Lab. The whole point of the Liebster Award is to get to know other bloggers better and to discover new blogs. Here are the rules of the Liebster Award:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
2. Give your readers 11 random facts about yourself.
3. Answer the 11 questions from the person who nominated you.
4. Nominate 11 bloggers to receive this award.
5. Invent 11 questions for your nominees.

So here we go...

Random facts about myself:

1. My favourite colour is purple. My least favourite colour is yellow.
2. I have a little bit of agoraphobia, so I get a little too stressed when I'm in crowded places.
3. One of the things I'm most proud of is that I'm studying a degree while I have a full time job. I'm quite lazy and I never thought I would be able to do so!
4. I have a wide range of allergies.
5. I love childish things like toy catalogues and Disney Channel TV shows.
6. My most ambitious goal is to have a PhD.
7. I have a thing for 50's inspired stuff and vintage things.
8. When I was 11 years old I "designed" my own fashion doll line.
9.I wear glasses since I was 8 years old.
10. It really pisses me off when people treat me like if I was some sort of illiterate just because I work as a shop assistant.
11. I'm probably the biggest nerd you will ever meet.

1. Do you collect anything besides dolls?
My boyfriend and I would love collect Lego Architecture, but unfortunatelly, the ones that we like are not avaliable or are super expensive, so currently we only have 1 Lego in our collection.

2. What is your favourite part about the doll hobby? (finding, redressing, repainting etc)
They give me the perfect excuse to evade from the real world. Even when I'm not playing with them, I'm thinking of stuff I could do for them or creating (mentally) my own original characters.

3. What was the first doll you added to your collection as an adult?
Signature Robecca Steam.

4. How did blogging help you with your hobby?
I met other bloggers with interesting blogs full of information that I could really use. And also, the reviews are helping me to pay more attention to the details on the dolls.

5. Name one doll or blog-related accomplishment that you're very proud of.
I'm not specially proud of any doll or blog accomplishment.

6. What is your favourite doll blog?
I don't have a favourite, but there are several blogs that I follow, like The Toy Box Philosopher, that is one of the very first blogs that I started following.

7. When you get stuck on a project, how do you get it going again?
I just leave it and start doing something else. Then all of the sudden ideas come to my mind.

8. What new skill would you like to learn?
Well, I'm pretty clumsy and not very skilled when it comes to craft and sew, so I'd like to be more skilled in general, but if I have to choose just one, I'd love to learn to sew.

9. What are your 3 favourite books or authors?
This is a difficult one. I don't really have three favourite books, but lately I've read The love song of Johnny Valentine by Teddy Wayne, The Dharma bums by Jack Kerouac and (this is  nerdy one) A brief history of time, by Stephen Hawking.

10. Which doll do you want the most at the moment?
Do I have to choose JUST one?  I'm really dying to get my hands on Isi Dawndancer and the rest of the Brand Boo Students dolls.

11. If you had to evacuate immediately with no possibility of return, which is the one item you'd pack besides the emergency case?
Just the thought of leaving my dolls behind is killing me, but probably I will choose my laptop. And Wydowna Spider.

Now I'm supposed to nominate someone, but I'm affraid all the bloggers I know have already done this. However, I'd like everyone that reads this post to answer this question: dolls in or out of the box?

I really hope I can get some free time soon, so I can write a new post. Two new dolls have joined the family: Porter Geiss and Boo York Boo York Nefera, that was a birthday present from Mr. Monster. I can't wait to do a review of Nefera and compare her with her signature doll!

  1. Hi, I enjoyed reading this, it's great to get to know you better! I wish you much success with the studies, I did the same thing while working many years ago, it was tough, but worth it, so if it gets tough sometimes: hang in there, you will be so glad you followed through!
Your Boo York Boo York Nefera is lovely, this series is awesome, I have seen a few in our stores, but not all of them yet, so I'm patiently waiting :-D!

    1. Hi Linda! I'm glad you liked my answers. Yes, I know it's going to be worth the effort, but sometimes I just want to lay on the sofa and do nothing. I agree about the Boo York line, it's great, and I can't wait to get Elle Edee.
      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Oh, and reading BlackKitty's comment, I realized I forgot to answer your question! Most of the dolls: out of their boxes! Exceptions: very rare dolls I would keep in their boxes - but they would have to be very very rare :-).

    3. I agree with you. I always wonder if I will keep a SDCC exclusive doll (if I manage to get one) in the box, but I'm afraid I will take the doll out and keep the box.

  2. Out. Out, out, out, out. Out! The dolls, I mean :) They are 3D objects, not framed paintings! I can understand not brushing/undressing the dolls, but not in-box collecting. Such a collection is impersonal and looks like a warehouse.
That was a good question. Love your answers! I too like purple, have allergies, wear glasses and read The Toy Box Philosopher. I'll have to check out those books. Great present from Mr. Monster! He seems like a stand-up guy. You should get more of these Lego things to reciprocate. So now you have both Neferas? I'd love to read your impressions :)

    1. I totally agree with you about the whole box thing. Sometimes it takes a while until I unbox them, but the dolls always end up out of the box. The only doll that I have in a box is a Barbie Silkstone, but just because I'm still considering selling her.
And yes, I do have two Neferas. When I started collecting I only wanted to buy one doll per character, but then I started making exceptions and now there are several characters that I have more than one doll.

    2. It's fine if you're on the fence about keeping it, but every time I hear something like "I bought one for me and one to display in box" I think, ok, this person needs medical attention! Rarities are one thing, they may be worth something later, but to keep a regular doll shackled with plastic bits, disintegrating elastics, stapled hair, glue seeping out of the back of the box, a crooked necklace, a twisted sock, a crease in the skirt and that one stray hair.... Maybe I'm OCD, but I have never seen a display-worthy boxed doll, they look much better out and neatened by the owner. Plus the old ones develop green ear, stains and uneven discolouration from never being played with. Rant over.

    3. Oh, and on the subject of multiple dolls, I do the opposite thing. I have some favourites whose new versions I always look forward to. With all the different hair streaks and hair styles, not to mention the makeup, they are very different. My 4 Ghoulias look nothing like each other, and I haven't even repainted them yet!

    4. I agree about the box thing, playline dolls are made to PLAY with! I'm not a doll customizer, but I know I need to re-style some of my dolls' hair. Maybe I'll do a "hair saloon" session with them when I have time.
The main reason why I don't buy many version of the same character is that both the budget and the space to keep them are limited, so I give priority to new characters over repeated ones. However, there are dolls so gorgeous that I don't mind having two or more versions of them.

  3. Hi Monstercraft, I so agree with number 2! to answer your question always deboxed!!!!! I do not collect to resell and I'm really choosy about the dolls I buy, I buy only the ones I want to play with!
This was a very interesting reading, kudos for you for being able to keep on stuying while keeping a full time job. I tried but had to give up, keep it up, you brave girl!!!
Ps. I love love love the 1 Lego collection!!!!

    1. I don't buy my dolls to resell them either, but sometimes I've bought a doll online and I've been disapointed when I have received her. In that case, I might consider selling her.
Thanks for your encouragement, it's very hard to combine a job and studies.
I'm working on increasing that Lego collection, but they are quite hard to find were I live and very expensive. The one that I own is the Space Needle building.

      Thanks for stopping by
