Doll review: Barbie Fashionistas Curvy "Spring into Style"

Hello everyone!

Tuesday I had a day off because it was local holiday where I work, so Mr. Monster and I decided to go shopping to a bigger city close to where we live. We don't live in a very big city, so sometimes we can't find what we're looking for. One of the main reasons why we went there is because I wanted to do some doll hunting. And it was great! I found 3 of the new fashionistas: Spring into Style, Rock'n'roll plaid and White and Pink Pizzazz. I saw also Team Glam and Dolled up denim, but they had wonky eyes and I didn't get them.

As you may have noticed, I love the new fashionistas, specially the new body types, I like the diversity they bring to the Barbie line. I have already reviewed Crazy for Coral (petite) and Sweetheart Stripes (curvy). Today it's time to review doll number 26, Spring into Style.

Sping into Style box is not different from other Fashionistas' boxes. It's mostly clear, so you can take a good look into the doll, and it's easy to open. It doesn't say anywhere that she's a curvy doll.

Unlike Monster High dolls, Barbie's don't seem to have so many plastic pieces holding the doll to the box, so they're easier to release. Here she is.

Some of the new fashionistas with the new body types seem to also have new head molds. Some of the curvy fashionistas (like this one and Chambray Chic) have this new head mold with full lips and rounded cheeks. I don't know if this head mold has an official name, so any further information will be welcome.

She has this long, beautiful dark brown hair. I LOVE her hair quality and the way it's styled, simple but elegant.

She wears a dress with a coral pink ruffled top and a navy blue skirt with flowers. It's a simple design, but it looks cute and the fabric seems better quality than other Fashionistas' outfits.

She wears this beige high heeled oxford shoes. I actually have a similar pair of shoes in black, that happen to be my favourite shoes.

Bottom line, I think that she's a beautiful doll. There's something in her face paint that makes her hard to photograph, but she's gorgeous in person. Despite the overall quality of this doll is good, she doesn't have a good balance, I don't know if it's because of her shoes or her feet, so she's quite hard to pose.

The bad thing about this dolls is (as I've said a zillion times) the lack of articulation. However, I'm happy that I've added her to my collection and I hope to see more of this ladies, specially I'm dying to see some articulated bodies. Now Sweetheart Stripes has a new curvy friend.

And, as I usually say, the new Fashionistas don't have names, so I need to figure out one. Any suggestions?

What do you guys think of Spring into Style? Do you have her in your collection?

  1. Oh, man, this one happens to be the only one of the recent Fashionistas that I actively dislike. Her face just reminds me of a very nasty person, although taken separately every feature is beautiful. I like the skirt that has print all the way around. Name suggestion? Dorina/Dory :)

    1. Hello Black Kitty! I see why you don't like her. I didn't like her either at the very beggining, but I saw some IRL photos from The Doll Cafe and I changed my mind. She doesn't look nasty to me, she looks serious. However, depending on the angle, she looks a little bit happier, I know it's weird, because dolls don't do facial expressions, but depending on the photos they look very different.

      Thanks for your comment.

    2. Oh, the doll doesn't look nasty at all, in fact she looks way better in home photos than in promo. What I meant is that she looks a bit like someone specific I knew, the resemblance is minimal but every time I see this face I think of her. It may also be that the face is very... standard? As in, if I go to the store at the corner, I'll probably see at least five girls who look like this on my way. I do like the sculpt, it would be interesting to see more interpretations of it.

    3. This is one of those strange cases in which the doll looks better in person than in the promo picture. That happens to me with names, I dislike a name if someone I don't like is named that way. I do like the face mold aswell, but, as you say, it would be great to see different face paints on it. The other two curvy girls with this headmold (Chambray chic and the one that comes with fashions) look like twins, at least in the promo pictures. I have Chambray Chic still in her box, so probably when I unbox her I'll do a comparison with this one.

  2. That's a good review :) I'm very tempted to get this doll, mainly because of her pretty face. I really like her sculpt and hope to see more of her kind in the future. I'm not in love with the body though. Sure, it's a pleasure to see the curves, but curves can't overshadow the weak points. The lack of movability is a big disappointment but what puts me off even more is the quality of plastic the doll is made of. It lacks the pleasant weight of the old bodies and it's obvious that it's very cheap. Havin' written the above I still have to admit that this doll is worth a try. She's got the looks and she's diferent from what we know. Hope that Mattel decides to give her face to one of their "collector's" dolls one day.

    1. Hello Stary! Yes, I agree, the lack of articulation is a weak point, but I really hope that, if this fashionistas are a success, we'll get articulated new bodies in the near future. I like the new head mold aswell, and I do hope to see it in other dolls in the near future.

      Thanks for your comment!

  3. She is a very pretty doll! I do agree that she looks better in person. Did you know that the next doll in the Harlem Nights series is an articulated Curvy gal? She is supposed to be out in October. I enjoyed your review.

    1. Hello Phyllis! Yes, I've seen her in pictures, she's pretty, but she's not my cup of tea. However, if they have developed an articulated curvy body for that doll, maybe that means that we'll get articulated curvy ladies in the near future. Fingers crossed!

  4. I think her face is quite life like. It has a lot of character. Love the lips especially. I prefer dolls with closed mouths and although hers is closed, from some angles it looks like she's smiling.

    1. Hello Muff! I didn't like her when I saw the prototype, but I think she looks cute in person. My favourite part are the full lips aswell. Yes, I agree, depending on the angle she looks like she's smiling. Thanks for your comment!

  5. I have this Fashionista, too, and White and Pink Pizzazz. Her face reminds me of one of the Star Dolls. i don't think it's the same mold, but it is similar.

    1. Oh, yes, the Stardolls! I didn't manage to get any of them and I wish I had! Now that you mention it, I do see some resemblance.
Thanks for stopping by and sorry for not being able to answer sooner!

  8. Hello, i recently bought this doll and want ti change her body to mtm dolls. Sadly there are only two choises. Yoga brunette hair will be to pale for her. Do you think it would match te mtm curvy dancer ?

    1. Hello Monica. I don't own the MTM curvy dancer, so I can't tell you, but I have a feeling she'll be too dark. However, my dolly- friend Phyllis has rebodied tons of Fashionistas, so check out her blog: http://adayinthelifeofmydolls2.blogspot.com/2017/06/new-fashionistas.html
If you don't find this particular doll, check out if she matches other fashionistas you may have. That may help you find the perfect MTM match.
