Doll room update

Hello again! I'm still alive! Real life stuff has been keeping me busy these past few weeks and I haven't had much time to work on anything doll-related, but I thought I could make some time to come on here and give you a quick life update. In other words, I didn't want to  leave the blog inactive for so long.

As I mentioned on my last post, we received some furniture that had to be assembled. Although I don't find assembling furniture particularly difficult, it can be time-consuming, and it's always better to do it between two people. Luckily, Mr. Monster is on holidays this week and the next one, so we had more time to get things done. One of our priorities was our dinning table, because we didn't have one to begin with. Once that was done, we got to assemble the furniture we got for the doll/craft room.

We got another Billy bookcase from IKEA. We already had 3 in the other house, and when we moved here, we found out we could fit a 4th one. It was a blessing to have space for another one, since my doll stuff could barely fit inside the other 3.  I'm going to use this one mostly to store my crafts and doll size furniture, so it's accessible for when I want to take photos. It's not fully organized yet, but some of this stuff was on a cardboard box laying on the floor, so it's nice to have it on a shelf.

We also got a new desk for our computers, since our old one was too short and small. It's the Bekant model also from IKEA (I swear this post is not sponsored by IKEA). We chose this one because you can regulate the height and adapt it to you, which is something my neck is going to appreciate. It feels very sturdy and solid. As a downside, I will say that regulating the height is quite tricky, and it requires two people, since it's very heavy. I wouldn't recommend this desk if you would need to change the height several times a day, but it's fine if you would do so once in a blue moon.

I said that I haven't had much time to work on doll stuff, but I've found a bit of spare time here and there to sew a couple more pillows. I mostly do this while Mr. Monster is still sleeping, or he's kind enough to offer to cook lunch. I made another one in white, this time slightly larger than the first one.

I'm also making a yellow one. It's almost finished, I just need to stitch it closed, which is the hardest part. I'm hand stitching them and, on this last one, I've noticed that my stitches are more even compared to when I first started, which is a good sign. I haven't tried the sewing machine yet, but hopefully I will in the near future.

This is not what I was planning to post, so it's been kind of a last minute thought. I was planning to make a doll-size pergola in July, but it's the end of the month and I still haven't started it. I have the size and the structure more or less figured out, but it implies some sawing, and I still haven't managed to do it. Hopefully, in August I'll find some time to work on it, and I'll be able to take some fun summer-themed photos with it.

I was also given my appointment for the Covid vaccine, but unfortunately the date isn't compatible with a treatment for my allergies. For over a year now, I've been getting a monthly shot for allergies immunotherapy. The only issue is that you must leave 8-10 days between that treatment and any type of vaccine. I got my last allergies shot on Wednesday, and today (Friday), I've received a text with my appointment for the Covid jab on Monday. I've called my local hospital asking for a new appointment. The lady that I spoke with wasn't very helpful and said "Don't go to the appointment, and they'll give you a new one". My concern is that there's no guarantee that the same thing won't happen with my next appointment. On Monday I'll be going to the vaccination point and explain my situation, so maybe the people working there can help me. I'll keep you updated.

(Monday Update: I did get vaccinated. Everyone at the vaccination point was very helpful, and I got to speak to a doctor who assured there was no risk, since I had been on the allergies treatment for a year and I didn't have a sore arm. The nurse was very helpful too and she asked me to stay for longer in the waiting room, just in case.)

But besides that minor inconvenient, things are going well. We're almost done assembling furniture, and hopefully soon I'll be able to work on some doll stuff again. We're in the middle of a heat wave, so we're trying to keep ourselves as cool as possible while working.

Hope you're all staying well and healthy

M.C.

  1. Hi MC! Sometimes I wonder what we would do ithout Ikea, I love my Billy bookcases, they keep all my dolly stuff organised. Your doll furniture and craft one looks so neat.
I hope you manage to get your Covid vaccine shot organised, and have it soon.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Hi Xanadu! Me too, most of my furniture is from IKEA. I bought most of it when we were living in the other house, and we didn't want to invest a lot of money on furniture for a house that wasn't going to be our permanent one. I'm glad that you like my doll furniture.
I hope so. For what I've been told, people get another appointment pretty quickly, so I hope that's the case for me.
      Big hugs to you too.

  2. IKEA is a very nice place to get both furniture and things that can suit well for your dolls. Those Billy bookcases and the small boxes they have are great. Keeps things in place.
I am glad that you got your vaccine and got some help there too. Hope that you did not get any awful side effects.
Take care and enjoy the new week!

    1. Hi Niina! I do agree, IKEA has fantastic stuff. These Billy Bookcases are perfect to store all sorts of stuff.
I didn't get any major side effects exept for a very sore arm. Even tieing my hair into a ponytail is painful. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll feel better.
You too, have a lovely week ahead!

  3. I only have one Billy bookcase, with glass doors, that I use to display some of my dolls to help keep them dust free. The nearest IKEA store is a 2.5 hour drive, so we don't get there often. I do have a couple of types of bookcases that were less expensive, and a couple of wire racks. I could use some more storage, I think, but for now I am just moving my storage around a little to see what is most efficient.

    1. Hi Barb! The closest used to be also 2,5 hour drive for us, but right when we moved together they opened one around 1h 20 minutes drive. Coincidentally, it was quite close to the city I went to take my final exams for college, so sometimes we stopped by. I think it's necessary to rearrange stuff from time to time, but sometimes it doesn't matter how much you move stuff around, you just need more storage.

    2. I think I do need more storage, but unfortunately I'm just about at my storage limit, at least until the Dancer moves out on her own. I don't want her to move out, though. :)

    3. Then you maybe would need to find some crative ways to get more storage, if she doesn't move out!

  4. Sorry to have taken so long to respond but I too have been pretty busy, so I am just catching up on my blog reading. In any case, those are really nice shelves especially for storing dolly things. I've seen other collectors set up the dolly furniture in such a way as to resemble little rooms. Again, I do like very much those cute little pillows. Congratulations on your new home an so happy you were finally able to get vaccinated! Big hugs. April

    1. Hi April! Don't worry, I do understand that life often gets in the way. Believe it or not, I thought about making some sort of corner room to fit in there, so I could have it ready for when I need to take some quick photos. I'm really enjoying making pillows, it's quite relaxing. I want to make a few more and then I'll try to move on to other things.
      Big hugs to you too!

  5. Hi Linda! Don't worry, the Blogger reading list seems to be a disaster, so I'm not surprised you didn't see it. I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous this time around because of the pandemic. In regular circumstances I would get more irritated than nervous, specially if it's very crowded. But it's great to finally have a decent table and some more storage for my craft projects.
I do need a second one, but I don't have an appointment yet because of my allergies treatment.
    Hugs to you too.

  8. Hola!
