Doll Review: The Barbie Look "Music Festival"
Hello everyone! What have you been up to?
As I told you on my last post, I've just started University again and I'm quite busy with projects. However, I managed to finish all of them on time and the next project won't be assigned until next week, so I have a few days to play with my dolls.
Today I want to review Barbie Look Music Festivals, from the Barbie collector line. She's my first Barbie Look doll, aswell as my first Black Label doll. In case someone is not familiarized with what "black label" means, on The Barbie Collection you can find all the terminology explained. From the first time I saw her, I really wanted this doll, but The Look dolls are retailed for 55€ in my country, so I was waiting to get her. Luckily, a couple of weeks ago I found an offer on Amazon.es and I got her for 35€.
Let's start with the box. The Barbie Look boxes are very elegant: mostly clear plastic with a black frame. I like the font they use on this line.
The back of the box features some images of other Barbie Look dolls.
It took me a while to unbox her, as there were tons of plastic things holding the doll to the box. I have to admit that I was a little dissapointed when I saw this, as I thought that collector dolls wouldn't be attached this way.
Finally, she's out of the box.
She uses the Aphrodite head mold and she's gorgeous. I love her pale greyish blue eyes.
She has wavy blonde hair that it's a little bit messy, specially on the back. I actually expected her hair to come in better condition considering this is a collector doll. Her hair is decorated with a flower crochet headband.
She wears and ankle lenght boho burgundy dress with a flower pattern on it. The fabric of the dress feels better quality than playline outfits.
She wears beige wedge sandals. I like the design, but they could use a little bit more of realism.
She wears a fringe brown purse that makes her look more bohemian.
She also wears some jewelry, like this feather necklace.
And this golden bracelet. And she has painted nails!
She also comes with a few accesories: this cute little camera, a water bottle and a map of the festival.
Bottom line, I think she is a gorgeous doll, but I actually expected a little bit more quality considering this is collector line. I don't have any other collector dolls, except a Barbie silkstone that is still on a box, so I can't really compare. Yes, the outfit feels better quality, aswell as the packaging, and also you can tell the design is not that focused to kids, but I didn't see a huge quality difference.
Quality aside, I really like the concept of this doll, her design is beautiful and I think she's a great asset for my collection. I would really love to add some of those The Look Barbie dolls to my collection, specially Party Perfect. I think that this line is a great invitation to step into the collector Barbie dolls: they don't cost a fortune and the design offers something more than playline dolls. However, I think that Mattel should really pay more attention to the quality of their products.
So what do you guys think of this lady? Are you into collector dolls? Tell me what you think so far.

Congratulations on your first Look doll! I have my eye on some of them too. People who have more of them say the quality of the Look line is going down the toilet, but on the other hand they are articulated now. I like that little headband and the fact that the dress is long and casual for once.
ReplyDeleteHello Black Kitty! I also heard that collector Barbie dolls are less quality than a few years ago, but I still expected at least better hair quality. I agree it's great they are articulated now, and the latest ones have Made to move knees.
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
This is my favorite Look Barbie right now...she's so pretty and this is just my style. Thanks for the nice review and close-up photos...I'm surprised her ankles are not articulated and I can see what you mean about the quality not being quite what you expected. Regardless, I usually buy Barbie's for their beautiful faces and outfits so she is still on my wishlist. :)
ReplyDeleteShe's my favourite aswell, and like Black Kitty said, it's great to see a doll in a more casual outfit. I don't think I've seen a The Look doll with articulated ankles, maybe the newest releases?
DeleteI choose my dolls also because I think they're pretty, I don't really care if they're exclusive or not.
Thanks for stopping by.
I guess I do have some collector dolls. I have two Madame Alexander 21" Cissy dolls, and I have a bunch of Tonner dolls which I suppose are collector since they're made for the adult market. I only buy dolls that I like too, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the pictures of your new doll. I do admire the style.
Hello Barb! From Tonner I like Agatha Primrose, but I haven't got one yet. I'd love to have other collector dolls so I could compare the quality.
DeleteThank you for commenting, I'm glad you like the pics.
I saw the other two version on the back of her box in stores, but I have not seen this one in person yet. I love that camera. It's the best Mattel one I've seen. I only have one Look doll and got her super cheap. Sometimes they do an accessory pack for the Look ladies but I haven't come across one for this line yet. I'd like to get that camera without getting the doll.
ReplyDeleteHello Muff! Maybe on eBay you can get the camera. I remember those accessorie packs, but they haven't released any in a while. The only ones I have seen in person are the one with the blue sequin dress and Tea party, but Tea Party had horrible hair and I didn't get her.

Groovy girly ... 1970s style returns. Suede fringe bag, "straw" platform sandals, headband, and flowing, long, cotton dress. I like her outfit and the feather necklace. Cute. She's a lovely doll. Congratulations on getting her. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteHello D7ana! I love the 70's style look aswell. Thank you for stopping by!
