How to: Miniature 1/6 scale plants
If you're a dedicated reader of this blog, you probably know that I've been working quite a bit on making tutorials for YouTube. Most of them were things I already wrote a tutorial for on the blog, especially the very first videos, but some of them are actually new projects. Doing tutorials is hard, both for the blog and for YouTube, but I've been enjoying more the filming process than blogging. I feel like the instructions are clearer there. And if I feel I need to clarify something, I can always explain it in the written post.
For the longest time I felt like my dioramas were lacking some greenery. So, I decided to make some plants out of paper. I did see something similar being done, but couldn't find the original person that posted it. So if you're reading this, thank you for the idea!
I started filming this in May, but with exams and other life events, I couldn't finish the whole process of filming and editing until very recently. I don't know, but I don't seem to be able to organize my time properly to do all the things I want to do in a day and all the things I have to work for Monster Crafts take me forever to make.
Because the video was starting to get too long, I decided to split it into two separate videos. The first one is the actual process of making the plants. Basically, they're made out of crepe paper that I painted. My original idea was to get green crepe paper, but the ones they had at the store were a super bright green and a dark green, so I decided to go with white. I guess that, if you do this, you can experiment using different colored papers.

The second video is the process of making the pots. I know a very common way of making them is using caps from cosmetics and other products, but I didn't have any at that time, so I had to get creative. They're not perfect, and there are definitely some things to polish for next time, but they look good on camera.

I don't get into too much detail about how I glued them inside the pot because, actually, my first idea flopped, and I had to get creative. Originally, I had planned to fill the pots with white glue mixed with paint and let it harden, but 24 hours later the glue was still liquid, and had to redo the whole thing. So, I figured out that some cotton balls and white glue would do the job. They actually hold pretty well in place, so in the future I should consider doing a more detailed video of the process.
Cuteek, a fellow YouTuber and blogger, suggested that I should do a mash up of the entire process of making both the plants and the pots and upload it on YouTube in a couple of months and, since she's been doing YouTube for longer, I will probably follow her advice.
I'm also uploading shorter versions of these videos on YouTube Shorts. I don't love them, because I feel I don't get into much detail, but they do help boost my views. From these videos, so far I've only uploaded a Shorts for the plants. You've probably seen this one on Instagram, because since allegedly Instagram Reels are more popular than photos, I've wanted to see if it would boost the interaction (spoiler, it didn't).
I have ideas for a couple more YouTube videos: a "concrete effect" floor and a trendy artwork piece, which would cover my goal of having 15 long format videos on my channel. After that, I really don't have a solid plan. Maybe I will keep exploring making plants because, as much as I like the result that I got with these two, they're a bit too big for some of my shelves, so maybe I will try making a smaller version. Also, a larger plant to put in the background would be nice. Think something like a yucca or bird of paradise.
My other goal for YouTube is to reach 100 subscribers before the end of the year. Right now I think I'm sitting at 85, so I'm not that far from my goal. So please, subscribe if you haven't already, and share it with your friends if you can.
As always, thanks for reading me. I hope you're having a great summer season and enjoying your holidays if you have them. I will try to keep posting here regularly, but I don't seem to be able to find enough time to get everything done. But I promise I will try my best.
See you soon
