Photo compilation: September-October 2022

Hello again dolly-friends! How is November going so far? I've been quite busy with school, with 3 exams and lots of homework. Luckily, next week is going to be a quiet one, so I thought it would be a great time to do a quick photo compilation.  

As you might have guessed, I've barely posted any new photos these past two months. In fact, I've just posted 6 photos on Instagram, and 3 of them I had already taken months ago. But, 6 photos plus a "behind the scenes" shot is still enough for a compilation, so let's go. 

Since I was quite busy with school, I didn't have much time for a "seasonal themed" photoshoot (or for any photoshoot). But, a few weeks ago, I bought a very cheap fall wreath and I thought I could take some quick fall themed photos. So, before I hanged the wreath on my door, I took these photos. 


There was a huge difference in color temperature between all three photos. So, to try to make up for it, I tried to warm up Blake's photo. I had never done this, so I searched for a tutorial. The difference is still obvious, but her skin looks much warmer than in the original photo, that had some sort of greenish hue. 




I also did try to cool down a bit Rosie's pic, but I wasn't as happy  with the result. However, this is something I want to keep experimenting with, as I've often discarded a photo because the doll's skin was too red or too pale. 

Here's how I set everything up for these photos. As you can see, it's just a fall wreath attached to a piece of red cardstock. I got this wreath for around 5€ at Pepco, which is a store that carries decor items such as blankets at very affordable prices. I believe they belong to the same group as UK's Poundland. I had to go with this deep red cardstock color because the orange one that I have was very bright, and I don't have a brown cardstock piece. 


Remember when I went on holidays back in July? Well, I still had some photos from that trip that I hadn't posted and, since I was busy, I took a look at that folder again to see if I could find something to post. I believe I posted some of these on the original holidays post, but I'll share them here again in case you missed that. 




That's pretty much all I have to share today. It's not much, but between being busy with school and the lack of inspiration for doll photography I've been experiencing, it's not surprising. However, now that Christmas is almost here, I might find some inspiration for Christmas themed photos. These past few years I've tried to do a dedicated Holiday photoshoot post, and I definitely want to do that this year. You can probably expect that from me next, as I don't think I will have time to come up with anything else.

    Hi Linda! Welcome back! It does look nice, I love deep rich colors. I know how it is when things get in the way of dolly-time. Hopefully, you'll start feeling better soon and things will go back to normal. I have just visited your blog and added it to my reading list.

    I really like your autumn photos. The wreath is detailed, but doesn't take away attention from the dolls, and I love the color of the cardstock. I think I mentioned that my previous ring light offers warm or cool light, and my new one does too. Does yours have something like this? Does it make a difference, if you have a light with warm/cool settings? I don't know if it's because I have spent most of my life not having access to photo editing (back when it was mostly for professionals) but I don't really think much about playing around with things like warmth. I have to remember that I can try these types of changes.

      Thanks Barb! My ringlight does also have an option for that. It works like a gradient and I usually have it set up on the middle, which would be neutral. It sometimes makes a difference, but there's time that the phone picks up colors much warmer or much cooler than they are. It has happened to me that certain dolls' skins will look way more orange than they are against a blue background. This could be balanced out with some editing.
      Yes, when I was younger Photoshop was mainly for professionals and the license was so expensive (still is), but nowadays there's lots of free options such as Gimp that work just fine for what I do. I could do a quick tutorial on how I did it, even though I'm not an expert and I just learn by experimenting.

Retro Review: Barbie Travelin' House playset (1995)

Hi again, doll lovers! How is your summer going so far? Jeez, this summer is keeping me busy. Our house makeover is finally taking off. We've been busy meeting with the contractor and choosing the materials. At first I was quite frustrated because I didn't see any progress, but now I finally see it moving, slowly but steady. Also, both Mr. Monster and I got sick a couple of weeks ago, which didn't leave with much time left to play with dolls. Anyway, I'm finally here with a new blog post. A while back Barb posted on her blog about a doll she had as child. On that post, I told her about this playset and I thought it would be interesting to show it to you guys. Hi again. Hope you're all doing well.  In some of my last posts I wrote that some of the people I used to follow on blogger weren't active anymore.
