Doll Review: Barbie Fashionistas Petite "Rock'N'Roll Plaid"

Hello everyone! I can't belive it's September alredy! University starts in a couple of weeks, so that means it's almost that time of the year when I fall asleep in the sofa while reading the text book after  having worked for a whole day.

I've done some (small) progress on my living room diorama walls , and I hope I can finish it before university starts. I don't have much furniture yet, but I'll do it with the furniture I have. However, today it's time to review one of the newest Barbie Fashionistas: doll nº Rock'N'Roll Plaid.

Let's start with the box. All the Fashionistas boxes have the same shape, but each doll has been given a different pattern for their box background, this one has boomboxes as a pattern.

Her box was ridiculously easy to open and soon she was out of the box.

Rock'N'Roll Plaid has a new head mold introduced in the 2016 Fashionistas line, the same one that White and Pink Pizzazz has. She has almond shaped eyes with thick eyeliner and very light pink/nude lipstick. I liked her face better on the promo pictures.

She has very light blond hair, almost platinium blonde. Her hair is not very generously rooten, but it's not a complete disaster.

She wears a white short tee with a nice vinyl drawing on it. She also wears this knee-lengt plaid tube skirt. It's a weird combination, but I like it.

She also wears this pink studded bracelet.

Her shoes are one of the best things for me. This high heels are killer and I love the molded studs details. However the heels are a little bit soft and bend easily.

Despite she looked better in the promo pictures, I think that she's a nice doll. I hope this new bodies are a success and soon we can get articulated versions of this characters. Or Mattel could just sell spare articulated bodies in their website in ANY skintone you need. And they would ship to Europe with a fair shipping price. Oh, I'm dreaming again!

Speaking of skintones, to me this doll seems to have a slightly more tanned skintone than Barbie, but however it seems similar enough for a rebody.  If you have further information, please, don't forget to comment.

The new fashionistas don't have names, so I've chosen to call this one Maya. Mr. Monster suggested it and I think that suits her. When I think of Maya I think of Sabrina Carpenter's characters on the TV show Girl meets world. The doll doesn't resemble the actress at all, but she always wears rocker outfits on the show.

So what do you guys think of Maya? Do you have her in your collection?

M.C.

    1. Hello BlackKitty! I also prefer this one to the tall one, but this dolls were very cheap and I ended up having both. I don't remember the shoes either, they are quite detailed and fierce for being Barbie shoes.

      Thanks for your comment!

  2. Congrats on adding this girl to your collection. I do have this one (but then you expected that, right!). I rebodied her on a MTM Barbie (blonde with pink top) body. I really like her name, Maya and love that Mr. Monster helped you name her!

    1. Helly Phyllis! I guessed that the skintones are close enought for a rebody, but her skintone still looks slightly darker than Barbie's. Maybe it's just my lightning. I'm very happy too when Mr.Monster gets involved in my doll collection!

  3. Maya is the perfect name for her! She's pretty cute, but I may skip this one. Her eyeliner is a bit on the heavy side for me, but it does fit her rocker style (and shoes!) :)

    1. Hello Farrah Lily! I didn't plan to get this one either, but this dolls are quite cheap and I ended up having a bunch of them. She has a cute face and I love the rocker style!

      Thanks for your lovely comment!

  4. She's cute! I sort of want her shoes.

So far, I haven't bought any of this line, but we'll see what happens if it sticks around...

    1. Hello Smaller Places! Yes, her shoes are fantastic, I hope to see them in more colors.

Originally I only wanted to buy one of each, and look at me now....

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. She's cute! I also hate how the stiletto heels on Barbie shoes bend so easily.

Robert Tonner is currently selling spare bodies for head transplants. Of course, his dolls are higher end than Mattel, but if Mattel thought they could make money off of it selling their own Barbie articulated bodies, they might try it?

    1. Hello Barb! I agree with the shoes thing, and also they don't help keep the doll balanced.
I think that it could be a great idea, it's easier to remove just one head than two.

  6. She is quite different from the promo photos, but still a cutie pie. I like her styling a lot and those shoes are the hotness.

    1. Hello Muff! Yes, she's a little bit different, but I still like her. I hope to see this shoes in another color sometime soon.

  7. I also have a Fashionista with petite body: she's the one with short hair, big eyebrows, an attitude, white shirt and red skirt. She's one of the best dolls I've ever seen.
I like these new bodies, I hate their legs. They're sticks. Hard, plastic sticks.

    1. Hello Zilkenian. I'm not crazy over the fashionista you mention, maybe because all the ones I've seen in person had wonky eyes. I hate the legs aswell, I wish they were articulated!
