How to: Textured "limewash effect" terracotta wall
Hello again dolly-friends. It's been a month since my last post and, while I might not have been seen around here, I've managed to work on some doll stuff. As I have mentioned in my last couple of posts, I'm trying to work on my Youtube channel. Up until now, I had mainly done miniature artwork videos because they're easy to do, but this time I wanted to give it a try to make a wall.
For a while now, I wanted to make a colorful version of the "limewash effect" textured wall that I did a while back, but never got around it. So, when the time came to film a new video, I thought it could be a great idea. So, here it is. (Check out this link in case the embedded code doesn't work).
Filming the wall was much harder than filming the teeny tiny artwork. I had a hard time figuring out how to fit the entire wall in frame. On top of that, since the support is attached to my table, every time I hit the wall with my sponge, it would shake my phone. Well, I'm a beginner, and these kind of things are supposed to happen. I think I've found a way to avoid that happening next time. Hopefully it will work.
On my last post I mentioned that I was torn between doing the wall in green or pink. I was dead set on making it green, because lately I'm quite into green. However, I did a couple of tests with the greens that I had and I wasn't sold on any of those. So, I decided to go with pink. I didn't do any tests for this, I just trusted the process and hoped for the best. Here's a pic of the samples that I discarded.
In retrospect, one of the greens doesn't look that bad, but it's not what I was going for. I would love to give it a go again using this technique, but this time using the green. What do you think?
I'm having a lot of fun making videos for YouTube, but it's a lot of work. You also need to pay attention to several different things: "Are my lights on?" "Am I in frame?" "Did I just forget to press record?". And then editing takes its fair share of time. But I've set for myself the goal to put out an average of 1 video per month, which is not a lot, but also not too demanding now that I don't have much free time.
As for the rest of my personal life, it's just as busy as always. Next month Mr. Monster and I are traveling to Slovenia to visit our nephew that lives there. I won't be taking any dolls with me, but I might do a dedicated post if you're interested. And would you believe, that as soon as we booked our trip, we came across a bunch of unexpected expenses. Our water filtering system had a leak and we had to pay a crazy expensive water bill. Of course, the system itself has to be replaced. Our bedroom AC is not working properly, and that needs to be taken care of. That can wait for a bit, as summer is not that close, but we'll eventually have to fix it. Luckily, I'm not really interested in any doll releases that have been put out recently, so I can put the money where it's needed and not have any "regrets".
I hope you're all doing well. Please, let me know what you think of the video. Also, if you can, subscribe to my channel and like the video, it does really help.
See you as soon as possible

¡Hola!
I liked your video and your wall turned out nicely. I need to make a few "home dec" pieces like you have; they look good against a background. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of Slovenia. It's not a place we see pictures of often in the US. I can relate to your home issues, since we had issues with our furnace back in January. I like owning better than renting, but it does have its issues sometimes!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb! I have a tutorial on my blog for the letter decor. It was very easy, and I'm sure you could make something similar. Right now I feel like I'm missing some plants in my decor, so that's definitely something I want to work on soon.
DeleteI definitely will write a dedicated post about the trip and show some photos. We are really excited to go.
To add to the list of broken things, my computer just crashed. It had giving me trouble for quite some time, but now it just won't start. I'm working on a very old laptop, which is fine for replying to comments, but it's too slow to edit photos or anything like that. Let's hope my computer can be saved!
Thanks for stopping by
Interesting idea for a dollhouse wall. It looks beautiful and unique. I would love to see more photos with your dolls in the roombox💗🥰💗
ReplyDeleteIt’s great that you have a YouTube channel. I know that creating videos takes a lot of time. I also promised myself to make at least one video per month for my channel, but so far, I haven’t managed to keep up.
Thanks Inesa! I would like to take more photos of my dolls in the roombox too, but it's a bit tricky because it's quite small. Plus, I'm not loving the camera on my new phone. I know that eventually I won't be able to keep up with the "one video a month", but so far this year I have uploaded 4 videos, so it's not so bad.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Hi MC,
ReplyDeleteI'm still alive and kicking but just not too active right now. I enjoyed seeing your YouTube tutorial and also liked the green versions that you didn't complete, especially the one on the right (it reminded me of palm trees).
If you get a chance I would love to see photos of your trip to Slovenia.
Lots of love,
X
Hi Xanadu! Glad to see you around here again! I will probably end up doing a green version of this wall, just not exactly like those samples.
DeleteI have plans to do a post telling you a bit about the trip, but it will take a while since I'm quite busy at the moment.
Thanks for stopping by!
