New artwork: Barbiecore pink sunset painting

Welcome back to my blog, my dear dolly-friends. How is November treating you so far?

As you've probably noticed at this point, this year I've been really focusing on making craft projects and filming them for my YouTube channel. It was something that I had really wanted to do for quite some time, and this year I decided to finally go for it. I love crafting for my dolls and, while filming tutorials can be quite tricky, it's really fun to learn along the way. Most of what I've been sharing are miniature paintings, which are very easy to do and quite relaxing to make.

A bit in line with two of my latest artworks, I was searching for "Groovy" art over on Pinterest, and I came across  something similar to this. I have done landscape paintings before, like this boho landscape, but I liked the idea of doing one that was mainly in pink tones. At the end of the day, it's Barbie I'm crafting for.

I decided to call this painting "Barbiecore Pink Sunset". At some point during the process, I thought I had gone a bit overboard with the pink. I asked people on Bluesky whether they thought this was Barbiecore, and they said yes. Anyway, enough rambling about the name, and here's the video.

If you watch the video, you will see that I decided to change the color for the sky. Originally, I wanted to do a lighter sky, but since Vintage pink was the lighter pink that I had, I decided to use it and, once everything was painted, see if I liked it or not. But let me know what you think. Do you prefer the lighter or the darker sky?

I started working on this project back in September, but until last week I couldn't finish editing the video. YouTube is a lot of work and life has been really testing me lately. But finally, here it is, and I'm quite happy with the final result. I'm also thanking past me for deciding to prefilm as much as she could before the school year began.

Now that I've shared all the details regarding the video, it's time to get personal.  After a few months of a series of unfortunate events, finally I have something positive to share. I've found a new job and I'm starting in a few days. I wasn't happy with my job, and since late 2024 I started seriously looking for a new one. It was also a part-time job, and it simply wasn't enough, as there are some personal projects I haven't been able to do because I didn't have enough funds for them.

And while the new job comes with some advantages, there are also a few downsides. Since it's a full-time job, I will have far less time to work on projects for Monster Crafts than I have now. This has made me really reconsider my plans for both the blog and the channel going into 2026. I will do my best to film another video to reach my goal of posting 12 videos this year, but I know that won't be possible to do next year. I will still be working on my channel, but maybe at a slower pace. I've also been prioritizing shorter projects over longer ones in order to be able to pump out enough videos, and I would love to rethink that and work on projects that I want to do for myself, not projects that I want to publish, if that makes any sense.

Also, I would like to thank everyone for all your kind comments regarding my father-in-law's passing and Mr. Monster's injury. We're doing much better regarding both things, and he's fully-recovered and going back to normal life.

If you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading me. I hope you're all doing well, and I'll see you as soon as possible.

  1. Interesting post/video. I think I prefer the lighter sky MC.

I just wish your blog didn't have ads though, sometimes they are really annoying, especially when I try to look at your blog on my phone.

    1. Thanks Xanadu. I've always had ads, but a while back I ran some automatic ad experiments, and they've implemented some annoying ad formats, which I considered removing but never did. I've tried to change the settings so the more invasive ad formats won't show up. We'll see if it works.

  2. I am amazed the it is already November, a month that I really do not like. It is 100 shades of grey and the sun is hiding and it is raining almost every day. But I am doing fine and hope that you are too even after some unfortunate events. Sorry to hear about your father-in-law’s passing and Mr Monster’s injury. Life can be so hard at times, but it is good to hear that Mr Monster is doing better.

I am glad that you found a new job and I hope you enjoy it!

So you are on Bluesky! I am there too, need to find you next time I post there. Had first an account but forgot to close my messages you can send there and got so much annoying and crazy stuff that way. Decided to stop for a while and made a new account some months later. Do not have Dollsdolour there at the moment, though.

Love the painting and the name Barbiecore Pink Sunset! I often prefer darker skies when I color or paint, but mostly I try to make the skies multicolored - like in a sunset with the darker blues, to purple, to pink and orange and yellow. It is a lot of work blending the colors but you get nice results.

    Enjoy November and take care!

    1. Hi Niina! Glad to see you're back! I love November; it's one of my favorite months. I love when the days get darker earlier; it's just so cozy.

The job couldn't have come at a better time. After dealing with one setback after the other, I told Mr. Monster "The next thing for us must be winning the lottery", and we kind of did with this job because it's going to improve our household economy.

I am indeed on Bluesky as @monstercrafts. I don't have my DMs closed, but I haven't had any bad or strange experiences so far. Mainly, I joined to interact with other doll collectors and promote both my blog and my channel.

I know what you mean with multicolored sunsets; they look beautiful in more detailed paintings. I want to keep doing these mini artworks, so, who knows? Maybe I'll do something more detailed in the future.

      You too, take care!

  3. I really like your latest piece of artwork. I could see it hanging on the wall in a 1970s Barbie Dreamhouse. Did Spain go crazy for Barbiecore the way the US did when the Barbie movie came out? Lots of people were running to the thrift stores to pick up pink fashion. Congratulations on the new job. Would you say Felicitaciones en el trabajo nuevo? Having a nice job can make a lot of difference.

    1. Thanks Barb! This was one of the projects I had more fun doing. I haven't seen many people go for Barbiecore in real life; most of what I've seen is online, so I'm going to say no.
You would say "Felicidades por el nuevo trabajo" You can also say "Enhorabuena" instead of "Felicidades", it means the same in this context. I wasn't happy at my old job, so I really hope this one is an improvement.
