Happy World Doll Day 2016!

Hello there! It's been a long time since I last posted, but you know I'm quite busy with University and my job.

Today is a great day, not only because I finished my final exams, which means that I will be free until september; it's also a great day because it's World Doll Day! It was created to spread a message of love and hapiness and it all started with this letter:

"So, you have not heard of World Doll Day?  This is not surprising as of an hour ago, I hadn't conceived the idea. To make it happen. I need cooperation of every doll collector, every magazine editor, doll newsletter, doll shop, library, doll maker, mother, grandmother, father, grandfather, and all the stray aunts and uncles. The first World Doll Day is the Second Saturday of June 1986. Give a doll to a grownup, child in the family or just a friend.  If you don't have a child to give a doll to - find one. There are many children with no dolls.

Think of it this way and ship a doll to another country.  I have always felt that the common doll could be an instrument of world understanding. From the first time I started writing books on doll making, I had the hope that dolls would help make friends all over the world and develop a little love among all.

World Doll Day will also be a day for doll exhibits. It is my hope that all libraries will have a special doll exhibit. Museums will publicize their doll exhibits and have special doll exhibits at this time.  Magazines will put out special editions.  Doll stores will put on campaigns weeks ahead.  Doll Makers will make special dolls for World Doll Day.  There will be doll competitions with World Doll Day awards, plaques and trophies.

The logo is made from artist Boots Tyner's doll representing a child. The child carries a German bisque doll to represent this doll collectors gift.  Feel free to copy the logo or have one made.

Everyone can enjoy the fun as there are no fees, no permission needed, no obligations, nobody owns the day, no club, no company.  It's a free- for- all, take up the day, its ideas and fly with it.  Lets do it now.  World Doll Day.
If you think World Doll Day is a good idea, then appoint yourself a committee of one to do something about it--only then can it become a reality.  Would you tell five people,  ask them to tell five people, and each of them tell five people and so on.  World Doll Day's birthday is June 14, 1986.

  Sincerely,
Mil and Vernon Seeley

P.S. This letter may be copied and copied again and again until the world knows about
World Doll Day."

I did this small collage to represent the dolls that I collect:

I think that today is a great day to examine a little bit my journey as a collector. As you might have noticed, I've lost a lot of interest in Monster High, specially since the reboot was announced.  At the same time, I've started to be interested in Barbie again, specially in the new Fashionistas with the new body types, as well as in the Made to Move line. Speaking of the Made to Move dolls, I bought a few in order to rebody some stiff fashionistas. The greatest thing about Barbie, is that she has tons of clothes and accessories. Yes, there's an overdose of pink , but they can always be repainted, and that's another thing I'd love to try this summer.

I have also interest in some dolls I haven't managed to get yet, like the Project MC2 or the DC SuperHero Girls. Also, I'd love to have an Agatha Primrose doll, but she's a little bit out of my budget. I'm also waiting to receive my iBesties doll later this summer, can't wait to meet Jada!

How have you celebrated World Doll Day? Did you buy any dolls?

  1. Hi M.C.,
Happy World Doll Day to you as well! I agree with you about losing a little interest in the MH line. I finally saw the new Frankie and Draculaura dolls today and was a little relieved that I didn't like them as much because I also have a lot of renewed interest in Barbie!
I haven't bought any dolls recently as it is both of my daughter's birthdays this month!

    1. Hello Farrah Lily!
I do still like my old Monster High dolls, but the new releases... not my cup of tea. The only thing about loosing interest in Monster High and switching to Barbie is that the name of the blog wouldn't really match.
When I do my finals, I always go doll hunting, because I live in a not very big village and the finals take place in a big city, so once I'm there, I go to shops that I don't have where I live. I understand, your daughters' birthdays come first.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I never heard of World Day Day... or if I did I forgot about it, so I didn't do anything special. I feel like I'm always doing something doll related everyday anyway.

    1. Hello Muff!
This saturday I would have gone doll shopping anyway, it was just coincidence that it was World Doll Day. I understand what you're saying, it's doll day everyday! To me, is a great day to think about how my collection has changed in the past year and to stablish some goals for this year.
      Thanks for your comment.

  3. I kinda-sorta remembered about WDD the night before but we were to go to a friend's house for some important private matters but today we went to the mall and found a nice deal for the exclusive Draculaura :) I'm 100% with you about the reboot and I'm glad you are discovering other doll lines to enjoy. I wouldn't mind a Barbie post from you once in a while, or you can change the blog domain altogether if you're feeling awkward posting about other dolls as "monstercrafts" ;)

    1. Hello BlackKitty! For the first time, I didn't need anyone to remind me that it was World Doll Day!

I've thought about changing the blog name, but I've got everythin doll-themed named that way: tumblr, twitter, facebook... and I don't feel like changing all that. At the beginning I opened the blog because I wanted to build a doll house, so it was going to be about the process, but with the lack of time and my lack of crafty skills, that didn't happen. However, I hope that this summer I can make some small crafts and show the process on the blog.

Congratulations on your new Draculaura, she's not that easy to find!
