A quick update on my doll storage

Those who know me personally know that I'm a really unorganized person. It's extremely difficult for me to figure out how to take the most of the space or organize stuff. My dolls weren't an exception, and the space they were taking and the lack of organization were starting to be an issue. However, inspired by a discussion posted on Doll Observers, I decided to put some order to my doll world.

When I first started collecting Monster High dolls, I kept all their stuff and accessories in a shoe box. Then, as the collection started to grow, I started taking over more boxes around the house: brushes and pets here, clothes and shoes mixed together, tiny stuff there.... I could never find what I needed! So, what I did was take this clear boxes divided in departments and organize all my Monster High plastic stuff.

I keep the shoes, purses in one, and in the other one I have everything else: tiny stuff like jewelry, food items, belts, folders, glasses and some Ever After High stuff. I'm not done yet, as some of the biggest purses, like Signature Operetta's purse and the pets are still in a shoe box.

I organized my Barbie stuff more or less the same way, only that I have less Barbie accessories, so I only used one box. Also, I had some empty spaces and I filled them with some Barbie outfits.

Right now I have my Barbie clothes in this small Ikea boxes, but I want to find a better option. At firts it was ok because I didn't have many things, but I've bought a few Barbie fashion packs lately and I'm starting to run out of space. I saw on a My Froggy Stuff video that she kept the dolls outfits in photo albums, so they're easier to find. How do you storage your doll clothes?

I have this skirt that has glitter on it and, in order to avoid getting glitter all over the place, I keep it inside a plastic bag.

I keep most of my dolls in a bookcase, but, as some didn't have stands I had to storage them sat down, but they take twice as much space. So, I got an idea from My Froggy Stuff and I got this magazine files where I storage the dolls that don't have stands.

I put them on top of my doll bookcase.  Half of them are still empty, but they will be full of dolls in no time.

Next to my doll bookcase I have my desk, where I study, do crafts and take doll photos. In case you were wondering, this is how I take doll photos.

I'm working on a new craft, that I hope I can show you soon. Also, as you may have noticed, I've got new backgrounds for my doll pics.  I'll try to post as soon as possible!

So how do you organize your doll stuff? Any tips I could use?

  1. How funny; I just did a post on storage myself! The only thing I would say is to look everywhere for storage inspiration. Artists, jewelry crafters, sewers, all need boxes to store things. You can always look at places like Target or WalMart, if you have stores like that where you live. I bought a couple of small storage boxes in the children's bedding department, strangely enough.

    1. Hello Barb! What a coincidence! Actually, the kids department should be a great place to find storage, as kids have toys and this are dolls anyway. I don't have Target or Walmart, but I know the type of stores that you mean. A hardware store could also be a great place to find storage.

      Thanks for your comment.

    2. Yes, I forgot to mention the hardware store until a bit after I posted. Mr. BTEG sometimes comes home from the hardware store with a craft box that I want to steal from him! :)

  2. So cool! I love seeing people's storage and behind the scenes stuff. I too have to keep my glitter clothing in plastic bags because that stuff gets everywhere!

    1. Hello Muff! Actually, that bag is from one of those single piece Barbie Fashions that I was about to throw to the trashcan. I'm glad that you liked my post, I also love to see people's storage.

      Cheers!

  3. I especially like the magazine holders for dolls with no stands. I have a very small apartment and doll stuff is stored anywhere and everywhere. I can't find what I'm looking for our need at any given time. Sometimes, I buy things twice because I can't find it or forgot that I already have it.

    1. That sounds familiar to me. Once I almost bought a Barbie fashion pack because I forgot that I had it! Actually, I didn't want to buy magazine holders, I wanted to buy fabric boxes, but I discovered that my bookcase is too thin for that, so I went for the magazine holders.

      Thanks for your comment.

  4. Hi! I love this post. The problem with doll clothes and accessories is that as soon as you've found a way to organize everything, you run out of space practically the next day. I've been wanting to do another "organization" piece but I've run out of space in my room. I do have a set of drawers used to store nuts and bolts that you can buy at any hardware store. I store doll shoes and boots there. I use pillbox organizers to store jewelry. But after all the drawers, clothes racks and hangers with doll hangers attached...I'm back to shoe boxes!!! Great post. PS. Love your photo studio!

    1. Hello April! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I want to find those drawers you mention, but I haven't taken the time to go to a hardware store. I do like the idea of using pillboxes to store jewelry a lot! I still have lot of stuff in shoe boxes, it's going to take a looong time to organize everything.

      Cheers!
