Doll Review: Barbie Fashionistas Petite "Kitty Cute"
Hi everyone! University started a couple of days ago, so that means I won't be able to post on a regular basis until June. I will try to post at least once per month, but I can't promise anything. Last semester was so dreadful and I had such a hard time that I didn't manage to do so, but let's just hope that this one will be different.
Today is time to review Barbie Fashionista #47 Kitty Cute, from the 2017 Fashionistas doll line. This doll uses the not so new petite body type that was released around a year ago. I purchased her on Amazon.es along with Daisy Pop and So Sporty, but Daisy Pop had a wonky eye and now she's on her way back to the Amazon warehouse.
This year's Fashionistas boxes are not different from last year. On the top right corner we can see the number of the fashionista and on the bottom, a cardboard cutout with some of the dolls featured in this line. On Internet I've seen pictures of this doll in the box with the word "Petite" on the top right corner and the number and name of the doll written below the word "Fashionistas".
On the back of the box we can see the other dolls featured in this line with their numbers witten below.
Unlike the previous Fashionistas, this one has this chart with the 4 Barbie body types. Since this doll has the petite body, the petite icon is highlighted.
The Fashionistas boxes are so easy to open that soon she was out of the box
She has fair skin, brown eyes and, like many redhead dolls, freckles. I'm not really sure about her head mold, but I'm going to say she uses the "Millie" as her smile seems to be similar to my Made To Move Barbie. Maybe if Black Kitty is reading this she could throw some light on this issue...
She wears a knitted black beanie hat made of hard plastic. I'm not a super fan of the hat and it comes attached with this horrible plastic things.
She has long red hair that is quite messy on the back.
The beanie doesn't let me take a good look at her hair, so I removed it. She has a beautifully two tone colored hair... that's quite poorly rooten. I love the darker shade on her hair!
She wears a jean vest on top of a white kitten t-shirt. I didn't take a proper look to her promo pictures and I expected her vest and t-shirt to be a one piece, but it's actually separate.
My happiness about the separate vest didn't last long, as her t-shirt and pink skirt are actually a dress.
She wears a pair of black flat booties that, for some extrange reason, came tied with rubber bands. Since this aren't the type of shoes that fall off, I don't really get it, but nevermind.
Overall, I'm happy with Kitty Cute. I mainly chose her because, you know, I have a thing for redhead dolls, and also because she has a cute face! I love how much personality this new Fashionistas have, but sometimes the beautiful doll design is ruined by poorly designed outfits. However, their low prices are sure a good thing about this line.
Even though I love the new Fashionistas and their designs, I think that Mattel could slow down a little bit on producing them. I saw on My Froggy Stuff Toy Fair videos that there are 24 new Fashionistas in 2017, which are quite a few. I think that, instead of releasing 24 stiff Fashionistas with sometimes not so fashionable outfits, Mattel could release just 12 as Fashionistas and do something more interesting with the other 12, something like an Style Luxe line with articulated bodies.
Now that she's part of my Barbie family, Kitty Cute needs a name. The first one that came up to me was Kim, but I don't think it suits her. You can leave your suggestions in the comment section below.
So what do you guys think about Kitty Cute? Are you excited about the 2017 Fashionistas?

Great review! I'm considering getting this one - she's a cutie. I'm pretty sure she uses the Millie sculpt (it's used really well here in my opinion)
ReplyDeleteDo you think there's a way of separating the top and skirt? Like unpicking the 'joining' stitch? I might do that if I get her.
Hi Breanna! I'm not the best at sewing, but you may be able to separate them, but you'll probably ruin the skirt. Thanks, I'm glad you liked the review.
DeleteSince Kitty is a nickname for Katherine in English, maybe you could call her Catalina or Katerina. :)
ReplyDeleteKitty Cute is the one doll out of the latest line that I'm probably going to buy. Do you not like the beanie at all, or just because it is plastic?
Hi Barb! I'm not a fan of beanies in general, but because this is made of plastic it looks a little bit like a helmet.
DeleteI've also considered calling her Kitty, but I think of Kitty Pryde and it somehow doesn't work for me. I must give it a thought. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, I had no clue that was a combo skirt/top. I mean it does look good together, but geeze. Also the back of the beanie kind of looks like, uh... poop. Yet and still I like the entire look, lol.
ReplyDeleteMuff, I didn't see that resemblance in the beanie but... yeah... I like the look aswell, despite the top+skirt dress.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
