Video tutorial: Miniature "boho" artwork

Image
My crafting motivation is back! These past few weeks, while I was finishing a sewing project, I couldn't stop thinking about some of the craft projects I want to do this year. I don't know how to describe it with words, but often I get some sort of ticking sensation and I can't stop thinking about it. But I waited patiently until I finished the sewing project (because if not I would never finish it), to start working on something.  I was torn between doing a miniature painting or try to create a new crate-furniture piece that I have in mind. Since it had been a while since I last posted a video on YouTube, I thought it could be more interesting to do the artwork first, and then start working on the furniture.  For this particular painting, I wanted to make something similar to those "boho" paintings that are so on trend right now. I'm sure that you've seen them countless times on Pinterest and on some decor stores. I did base my painting on some images I f...

Photo compilation: March-April 2022

Image
As every other month, it's time for another Photo compilation . I started this series a couple of years ago, as a way to share all of those photos that I published on Instagram, but I never showed here. Now I don't post so often on Instagram, due to a lack of inspiration to take doll photos and because I'm not very happy with the way the platform works. This compilation is going to be a short one, due to the reasons I just mentioned, but also because I spent a whole month feeling like hot garbage.  These past few months I have felt very unmotivated to do anything, and the only thing I've managed to work on is a sewing project. I usually take photos on the same table I work on my craft and sewing projects, and often I don't feel like putting everything away to take photos. This is when my balcony comes in handy to take outdoorsy photos that don't take much effort. I have two new geraniums that give red and hot pink flowers, and I've been trying to use them ...

9th blogoversary

Image
Well, you've read the title. This little blog turns 9 years today! I can't believe 9 years have gone by already, it still feels like yesterday. I'm also quite impressed with myself for sticking to something for such a long time. Even though I started blogging back in 2013, I wasn't able to be consistent and put out the content that I was planning until 2019. I think the Making more backgrounds for doll photography post was when things started taking a shift. I don't know what it is, but I think it was at this point when I started enjoying the content that I was putting more, but also trying new things.  Last year I forgot about my blog anniversary, so the last dedicated post was for my 7th blogoversary . On that post, I mention that I've always wanted to do more craft posts, but never got the time or had trouble finding the supplies. Well, since then I've made around 14 dedicated craft posts (which you can find under the doll crafts tag), plus the little t...

Life update

Image
Well, before I even realized it, we're halfway through April. It's been almost a month since my latest blog post, where I mentioned I might not be able to post so regularly. But a few things have happened since then and, even though I don't have much doll-related news, I think I could do a quick life update.  First, I want to thank everyone for your kind messages and support on my last post. Unfortunately, I didn't react very well to the medication, and I've had to stop taking it. Two weeks into the treatment, I started feeling so bad and having major side effects, so I had to stop taking it. Some side effects are expected, and they should wear out once you get used to the medication, and I was ready to endure them. But I got really concerned when I got a tachycardia, so I had to slowly stop taking it. Luckily, as soon as I reduced the dose, it went away.  Of course, as soon as the side effects started wearing out, migraines appeared again with vengeance. We've ...

Doll review: Barbie Looks model 2 (curvy)

Image
Hello and welcome to the first doll review of 2022. I haven't done a doll review in over a year, when I reviewed the BMR redhead guy , back in February 2021, so it was really about time. I used to do reviews back to back, but now I very rarely do so, due to the fact that I barely buy any dolls. This is due to the fact that I don't have much money to spend on dolls anymore, but also there hasn't been anything in the market that has really caught my eye recently. However, a few months back, Mattel put out this Barbie Looks line, and this particular doll was a standout for me.  For those of you who aren't really into Barbie dolls, the Looks line is a collectors line consisting of 6 dolls that launched in summer 2021 (see them here ). The line seems to pay homage to the Barbie Basics line from 2009, but with the addition of the made to move body and new face sculpts. Later that year, 3 new dolls have cme out. These dolls original retail price is 20USD, which is a fair price...

Photo compilation: January-February 2022

Image
Hello and welcome back to another Photo compilation. If this is your first time here, in this series, I usually share some of the photos I've been posting on Instagram the past two months, and sometimes I add something extra like a "behind the scenes" pic or a photo that I discarded. What a better way to kick-start March by looking at all the photos from January and February.  I haven't taken many photos these past few months. I've mentioned several times that I haven't felt very inspired to take doll photos. So, to see if I could get some inspiration, I tried to go "back to basics" and take some photos with just some colorful cardstock and a doll. This is how I started taking photos, so I thought this could help me get inspired.  I really didn't put much thought into it, just some bright colors and a doll.  Once I started taking photos with the white and pink background, I started getting ideas for other color combinations. For the second combo...
